THE TOUR / The Inscriptions in Leong San Tong

Before the 1999-2001 restoration, Leong San Tong had three stone inscriptions and one brass inscription which documented the founding, establishment and restorations of the clanhouse. With the completion of the second major restoration in 2001, another stone inscription was added at the basement. The tradition of the inscription is meant to commemorate the achievement, which in turn will serve as an encouragement to the future generations.
The five inscriptions of Leong San Tong are as follows :
This inscription says that the Ee Kok Tong, the predecessor of Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, was founded in 1835. It also lists down the names and contribution of the 102 clansmen. The total contribution was 528 Dollars. View Inscription This inscription says that the pioneers of Khoo Kongsi had gone through many years of preparation before they purchased the premise, converted it into a clanhouse and named it Leong San Tong similar to that of the original clanhouse in their native village. View Inscription The text tells about the naming, development, festivities, features and customs of Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi as well as the context of making this inscription. It gives some details of the mysterious fire as well as its rebuilding. According to it, the restoration before and after the fire spanned 13 years in total and at a cost of more than 100,000 Dollars each. View Inscription Since the clanhouse was partially damaged during the Pacific War (World War II), a restoration project was undertaken after the war and was completed in 1955. This inscription is a record of the restoration. According to it, the project spanned four years and cost more than 60,000 Straits Dollars. View Inscription The text appears in the form of a traditional poem with four characters to each line. It tells about the historical development of Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi, including some details of the restoration before 1999. View Inscription | |
