THE Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi has donated RM60,000 to 12 welfare organisations in Penang.

The organisations each received RM5,000.

Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi board of trustees president Datuk Seri Khoo Keat Siew said the clan was aware of its social responsibility to the less fortunate folk in the community.

“We are confident they will make good use of the money in these trying times,” he told reporters after the cheque presentation ceremony at the Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi premises in Cannon Street on Monday.

“The Khoo Kongsi, as one of the largest and most influential clan associations in the state, plays a pivotal role today in reaching out to the larger community.

“We aim to help build communities that are harmonious, peaceful and safe,” he said.

The 12 recipients of the aid were Ex-Police Association of Malaysia, Befrienders Penang, The Penang Home, Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion, Mount Miriam Cancer Hospital, Silver Jubilee Home for the Aged, The Cerebral Palsy (Spastic) Children’s Association of Penang, St Nicholas’ Home, Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia and the Penang Fo Yi Haemodialysis Society.
